Travelling to Dallas/Fort Worth in 3 weeks, anything "punk rock" to do ?
We are two girls (22 years old) and we are going to Dallas/Fort Worth in about 3 weeks. (Yeah I know, it looks like our other questions, but we are road tripping around the USA :P) But, we don't really know what to do and/or where to go to see people that would fit with us. We are mostly all about music (punk/rock) so any shows would be great. Bars with pool table, nice and not too expensive restaurant ? Any safe hotel/motel ? What would be the best Tex-Mex restaurant (I've heard of Herrera's, any other suggestions ?).. And beside that, just generally _what else is there to do in Texas_ ? Any idea, people ? Put everything that comes to your mind, but it'd be better if you had a little description for each of your suggestions ;) :) Thank you ! (Sorry for any mistakes/weird sentences, I'm french :))

For the ounk/rock scene you'll definately want to check out an area downtown called Deep Elm. I like a place down there called The Bone. Trees or the Gyspy Tea Room probably wil have the music you are looking for as well. For Tex Mex - there are so, so many goods one here. Chuys, Glorias', Blue Goose, and Blue Mesa are some really good ones. I like Chuy's the best. All around Dallas has tons of restuarants to go to. The people here are very diverse, you will find just about anything. A lot of people think they're going to see a bunch of cowboys but not so. You might want to practice saying the word "ya'll" though. :) Stay in a hotel - Anything in Dallas classified as a motel is going to be bad. As far as affordable, Holiday Inn Express is the one my fiance and I would recommend. There are two parts of town you will want to avoid - South and East Dallas. Don't go in those areas, it NOT safe. There are lots of museums and clubs all over the city. A lot of tourist go to the West End and Greenville Ave. I think Greenville Ave is the best when people come to town. But no matter where you go in Dallas, keep a great map with you. Oh and, Welcome to Texas!! :)

Most of the punk clubs have gone out of business. Club Dada, The Double Wide, The Amsterdam Bar, The Fallout Lounge, The Red Blood Club, The Curtain Club, Sons of Hermann Hall, The Prophet Bar, The Door and Reno's Chop Shop Saloon are some places to see live music. A club called The Door is still open and it's a Straight Edge club. All ages, no smoking and no drinking. Deep Ellum used to be the place to go, but it just isn't the same anymore. You should have been there in the 80's or the 90's. The Bone is not a punk club. You will have better luck if you are Goth or rockabilly. The website below has a listing of the clubs and what night are goth nights. Pick up a Dallas Observer when you are in town. It is a free weekly paper that lists all of the events going on in Dallas. You can find them at most convenience stores. For good Mexican food go to Cuquita's on Henderson. They are open until 2am and very popular after going to the clubs.
