About which is the best airline to fly with as an unaccompanied minor

Which is the best airline to fly with as an unaccompanied minor?
I will be thirteen by May and would prefer nonstop to Charlotte, NC the cheapest way. From Dallas/Fort Worth,TX or New Orleans,LA. My problem is that I will be traveling as an unaccompanied minor. Which is the cheapest and the best airline to fly. Preferably with no charge of being an unaccompanied minor.

Try southwest airlines. They are really good about working with minors and the last I knew they did not charge anything extra for being a minor.

From New Orleans, I would use Southwest or Continental. If you have to go from Dallas/Ft. Worth, you might want to try American.

British Airways

As far as I know, all airlines that allow 13-year-olds to fly as unaccompanied minors charge for the service. It's usually only around $30, though, which isn't bad compared to the total ticket price. Southwest doesn't have a fee for unaccompanied minors, but kids 12 and over fly as adults, so you wouldn't be able to fly as an unaccompanied minor on Southwest. Most airlines don't require you to fly as a UM if you're over 12 (I think it's 14 for some, but usually just for international flights), so you would have the option to fly by yourself under the same terms as apply to adults, or to pay extra to fly as an unaccompanied minor. I don't know how much you've traveled, but if you've flown at all before you might not want to fly as a UM. If you have a nonstop flight then it's not a big deal. The advantage is that your parents can go to the gate with you, but the disadvantage is that you have to get on the plane early, and on the other end you have to wait until everyone else gets of the plane before you can leave, so you're on the plane a lot longer. If you didn't fly as a UM and weren't sure where to go, you can always ask any uniformed airport employee and they'll be happy to help you find your gate (or even your seat once you're on the plane). There are plenty of adults who don't fly much and don't know where to go, so it's not like it's unique to being a kid or anything. It's mainly just a matter of if your parents want to pay to go with you to the gate. If you end up with a connecting flight then it makes more of a difference. Besides having your parents come with you to the gate, you have an airline person take you to your connecting flight, so you don't have to deal with navigating the airport by yourself. But at many airports, you have to wait in this little room for your connect and you're not allowed to leave, which really suck. Also, if your flight is delayed and you don't make your connect, the airline will look after you until you can get another flight out, including putting you up in a hotel if there's not another flight that day. Personally I hated flying as a UM, but if you're not comfortable finding your way around an airport on your own it would probably be a good idea to fly as a UM if you can't get a nonstop flight. I never noticed any difference between airlines for flying as an unaccompanied minor. The fees are pretty similar for most airlines, and they treat you about the same, so it's just a matter of which airline has the cheapest fare overall.

Greyhound is the only one.

Avoid Greyhound due to poor service quality! Other options include Amtrak which requires a transfer in San Antonio. You can use Kerrville Bus Company or Arrow Trailways bus they also require a change of bus in Austin. Lastly the best value is usually to ride one of the several Latino discount bus companies where the service isn't upscale but is quick & cheap. Some of those lines are El Conejo Bus, El Expresso, and Adame Bus. Good Luck!

About traveling suggestions

Traveling suggestions?? Anyone? (from Texas)?
Me, my boyfriend, his cousin and his girlfriend are trying to find a great place to travel to. We want to take a road trip, but we only want to drive for ten hours or so.. from Fort Worth, TX. We need to find a place that has descent scenery and also modern activities. We have varied personalities, so we would like an area that has a little of both worlds. If you have any suggestions please help us out.. Can't wait! I forgot to be more specific... Those are great places, and I would know because we have all been to Austin and San Antonio many times. We are looking for places out of state.. and the ten hour limit isn't set in stone.. we could drive longer, we just don't want to go too far! lol Thank you though! Any other suggestions?

you can go to san antonio! there's a river walk, 6 flags theme park, the veiwing tower with a resturant, great resturants, great mall and its beautiful the city is beautiful. hope you have fun where ever you go!

Well a time honored tradition is to go tubing down the Brazos. This is the time of year to do it too. But 10 hours from Fort Worth can get you to Mexico( I don't suggest you visit a border town). So that is a VERY large area. Basically it depends on what you like. 4th street in Austin. River Walk in San Antonio Galveston Beach For that matter there is Sundance Square in Fort Worth. You could go crystal hunting in Arkansas. You could drive to New Orleans. You could Go rent a boat on Toledo Bend. Really it depends on what you like to do.

If you're willing to drive 12 1/2 hours go to Canon City, Colorado. It's in the Arkansas River valley, next to the Rocky Mountains and at the mouth of the Royal Gorge. You can take the Royal Gorge 24 mile round trip train ride through spectacular scenery. Walk across the Royal Gorge Bridge 1,000 feet above the Arkansas River - it's the highest suspension bridge in the US. Ride the Sky Coaster as you swing over the Royal Gorge. Go whitewater rafting. Visit the free Tasting Room at Holy Cross Abbey Winery, and if you have time tour the winery. McClellan's Brew Pub is fun. If you want a high end dinner go to Le Petite Chablis for French food. Have fun!

I know a number of folks that have enjoyed going north to Oklahoma, both the cities and the lakes. It is usually cooler than here in the wooded hills and they have more to do than just casinos

About flying with a four month old baby

Flying with a four month old baby?
My son will be born in March. My family always goes annually to Cancun, Mexico for a week in the summer. The plans are to be going in June or July. I tried to ask my OB about whether or not I could take him with us at that age and she told me to ask my pediatrician. I have not chosen a pediatrician yet so I called a bunch of ones to see if they would answer my question and they would not answer it because my child is not a patient... well, he has not been born yet so how could he have seen anyone?!?! I have read online that some people fly internationally with their children very young but I want to make sure I can go before we buy the tickets in January. Can anyone help me out? Would I need to make sure he gets special shots so he can go? This is saying he is perfectly healthily with no complications. Would it be safe for him to travel to mexico? I live in Fort Worth, Texas right now. I know not to drink the water and such, we will be staying at a resort.

I think it'd be fine for him to travel....hard, but fine. Maybe wait until he's born to talk to a pediatrician and then buy the tickets. Or when you call the pediatrician's office tell them you are looking for a pediatrician and want to talk with them to figure out if they are the right one for you and then ask the pediatrician during that time. Come up with a list of other questions and things to talk about too so you will really be interviewing them. Of course, they may just tell you to wait until you make sure all is okay with both of you. If you end up with a c-section, you will just barely feel like doing anything at that point.

Don't worry its normal.

I flew from London to Cape Town (12 hours) with my 4 month old recently and it was absolutely fine so you shouldn't have a problem at all. If you're bottle feeding, you are allowed to take liquids so you can take these with you. They make you taste them though at security so don't buy the little packs. You'll have to open them all. You should probable just take two bottles with pre-boiled water and some pre-measured formula. It's not worth taking lots of toys on the flight because the baby will have plenty of new things to look at but I'd take at least two blankets because the lights can be quite bright if he's trying to sleep and you might need to make a little 'tent'. Most initial immunisations are done by about four months in the UK so I don't think it would be a problem to get them done in the US by that time. From what I can see, most of the immunisations should be covered but I think they might recommend a measles vaccine which I don't believe is suitable until at least six months. You'll have to get medical advice for that one

About Houston, TX or Fort Worth

Houston, TX or Fort Worth?
My fiance and I are planning to move out of New York State once we get married. We are planning to relocate to Texas. We are considering Houston, TX or Fort Worth, TX. I know the cost of living is much cheaper in Texas than in New York and it is one of the reasons why we want to move there. We are looking for a city with a good school district because we want to have children one day, great housing market, low crime, but a little bit of city life as well. We are from NYC so we can't totally be stuck in the country but we would live to live in a suburban area with a little night life activity not too far away. The Woodlands was recommended to you, and I do think The Woodlands is a very nice community, but it's 32 miles from Houston so that may be a bit far away from city life. Houston would not be a place I'd care to live. The average year round humidity is 85-90% in the mornings and 65-70% in the afternoons, and although Houston is far enough away from the Gulf that it doesn't get a direct hit by hurricanes, the aftermath does a lot of damage when there is one. When Hurricane Dolly hit in 2008 our friends who live 40 miles north of Houston had their home flood, their roof damaged and were without power for 3 weeks. My opinion is that Ft Worth would be a better choice. A nice, family oriented suburb with great schools and a crime rate that's 1/4 the national average is the suburb of Keller, which is 17 miles from Ft Worth. Dallas is only 30 miles from Ft Worth so you'd have the benefit of being near 2 cities.
